Australia Day Old Car Display

On Australia Day this year (26th January) we went to Government House for a bit of a look. The various automobile clubs were having a display in the Queens Domain and we took some photos.

On my previous post I was unable to find any mention of Whight and Mann pianos. I have since found they are well known manufacturers of sewing machines in London - at the corner of Brook Street! I also found one reference to a Whight and Mann piano for sale in an old New Zealand newspaper. Interesting!

Piano Pieces

I found these piano pieces by the side of the road.

I cannot find any information about the manufacturer whose name is displayed on the inside of the lid. I wonder if it was a seller of pianos putting their own name on something else. I did find a Mann who made pianos in Germany, but not in London.

An intriguing puzzle.

Beetle Blow In

While walking today a small beetle landed on my shirt. I managed to coax it onto my left hand where I took these photos, holding the camera with my right!

First it crawled up my fingers.

Then it explored the back of my hand.

After perching like this for a moment it flew away.

Kookaburras Feeding

On the 14th of July this year I was taking my usual walk along the Plenty River when I saw a couple of Kookaburras behaving oddly. They were extracting insects from a partly dead tree. So I decided to take some photos. Here they are.

Millie in the Outdoors

Millie is a very white cat with almost transparent ears. We have been warned not to allow her outside very much. She has only ever been outside while being carried - until now.

We bought her a tunnel which can be attached to the old dog door at the back of the house.

She explored it with some diffidence but decided it was not too bad.

She can sit out there and feel the fresh air, look at the birds, bugs and fallen leaves.

And sometimes just relax and feel the air! (She spends about ten or so minutes outside, then comes back in for a while.)

But we do occasionally have to check that someone has not closed the door and stopped me from getting back inside!

But the real noise starts when we close the door and prevent her from getting outside again!

A Hesitant Kitten

Once I intended to use this to put a few photos on the www. Now I am going to start!

This is Millie when she was very small. She was also uncertain about this strange food her new owners were offering.
